The Lakes Printing Baxter Bombers/ 12-under girls' slow-pitch softball team won the Field of Dreams Invitational tournament last weekend in Andover.
Baxter defeated Richfield 7-6 and Elm Creek 16-9 and 13-7 to win the title.
Leading hitters for the Bombers included Nicole Marcy, 5-for-13 with two doubles, a triple and home run. Marcy had the winning RBI in game 1.
Emma McCulley was 5-11. Kaylie Hanson, Amy Mahle, Zoe Wolhart and Kristine Schrader all went 4-11. Nikki DeChaine went 4-12. Samantha Holmes was 3-11, Ally Hunstad 3-14 and Emily Doss and Lauren Makey both went 2-11.
Samantha Holmes pitched every inning of all three games. She faced 103 batters, walking only six, and struck out 13. She added 10 assists in the field.
"Holmes threw strikes when needed and added excellent fielding to help her own cause," Bombers coach Dean Makey said.
Defense backed up Holmes' pitching. Emily Doss at shortstop and Nicole Marcy at second base combined for 17 assists. Kaylie Hanson anchored first base. Outfielders Nikki DeChaine, Ally Hunstad and Amy Mahle hauled in 11 fly balls for outs.
