Lois Jean (Caughey) Siegel, 74, Brainerd, went to join her husband and our heavenly Father on Monday, Aug. 9, 2004.
Lois was born on July 26, 1930, in Daggett Brook Township, the 10th child born of Preston and Martha (Hohensee) Caughey. She attended school in a one-room schoolhouse in Daggett Brook Township and graduated from Washington High School in Brainerd in 1948. She worked in the nursing field until she married Virgil Marvin (Muggs) Siegel on June 2, 1951. They moved to Sunnyside, Wash., for a few years and then to Minneapolis where she was a homemaker and later an office worker at Napco Inc. They returned to the Brainerd area in 1971, where they owned and operated Busbey's Store on Lower South Long Lake. After the sale of the store in 1978, Lois went to work at Kmart, where she was employed until 1990.
Lois was a member of the Women of the Moose No. 1246, the Eagles Auxiliary FOE No. 217 and served on the board of directors of the Lower South Long Lake Improvement Association. She also was a member of the "Lois Club," where she attended the National "Lois Convention" this past March in New Orleans. The thing she most enjoyed was spending time with and spoiling her six grandchildren. They could talk "Nana" into almost anything.
Lois is survived by her daughters, Pam Thomsen (Dennis), Susan Breitling (Ken), Ann Marie Treichler (John), all of Brainerd; six grandchildren, Christopher and Cory Thomsen, Emily and Ellianna Breitling, and Todd and Mitchell Treichler; three brothers, Norman (Betty), of Brainerd, Francis (Evelyn), of Crystal, and William (Bill) (Alice), of Brainerd; three sisters, Kathleen Buehler (Milo), of Fort Ripley, Marion Siegel, of Brainerd, and Bonnie Olson (Lynn), of Brainerd, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three newborn siblings, brother Gene Caughey, sister Marjorie Dwyer, and grandson Benjamin Breitling.
Arrangements are with the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home. Services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Mark Kleckner officiating. Interment will be next to her husband of 50 years in Riverside Cemetery, south of Brainerd. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home.
