20 years ago (1984)

Expansion of the Brainerd Water and Light Board to five members, a proposal which has been bandied about city hall for more than two years, will be presented to the voters this November.

30 years ago (1974)

A plan envisioning one-way streets lined with shrubbery and indented sidewalks for the core area of downtown Brainerd received general acceptance from about 15 businessmen.

40 years ago (1964)

Food bargains! Lean meaty spare ribs - 30 pound, Hunts catsup-4 large bottles, $1, Seedless grapes -19 pound, White bread-sliced 2 1/2 pound loaves, 40.

60 years ago (1944)

A highlight baseball game of the season between the Brainerd Merchants and Pierz will get under way Sunday at Mogenson's Resort at 2:30 p.m.

80 years ago (1924)

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hoffman and family returned from a trip through southern Minnesota visiting at Minneapolis, New Ulm, Buffalo and Paynesville. Mr. Hoffman is manager of the telephone company in Brainerd.

100 years ago (1904)

Brainerd is the best town in northern Minnesota today and there are those who seem to think times are quiet here. Just refresh your memory and you will remember the past years. It's merely the midsummer lull in business.
