20 years ago (1989)

Walt Petraborg didn't care much for paperwork. The wildlife biologist for the DNR would rather be out in the field. Petraborg, who retired from the position of area wildlife manager in 1974, passed away yesterday at the age of 78.

30 years ago (1979)

The Brainerd Building and Construction Trades Council, representing 10 local unions, has voted unanimously to support the expansion of the Brainerd-Crow Wing County Airport. Members were urged to vote yes in the coming referendum.

40 years ago (1969)

David Hobbs from Upper Boddington, England, captured an $8,150 purse winning both heats and the overall championship in the Formula A Continental Grand Prix at Donnybrooke International Speedway.

60 years ago (1949)

Bus service to Brainerd and vicinity was resumed this afternoon on a partial basis by Northland Greyhound buses, bringing to an end the strike which has been in effect since April 27, according to Signe Sjodin, manager of the local bus depot.

80 years ago (1929)

We were just lucky to get out alive, said 16-year-old Bob Brown in relating the story of the airplane crash one week ago, in which he and his buddy, Ed Billings, were injured. They were released from the hospital this morning with instructions to rest for a month.

100 years ago (1909)

The Red Men's convention brought to Brainerd some of the grafters who always flock to any town where such a gathering occurs. Among them was a woman passing around engraved invitations to have people assist her in getting an artificial limb.
