Gov. Tim Pawlenty announced the appointment of Ardis Sandstrom, Motley, to the State Rehabilitation Council.
Sandstrom currently serves as associate director of the Brain Injury Association of Minnesota. She has been in this job since 1999, and works out of the Minneapolis office three days per week.
Sandstrom received a bachelor's degree in applied psychology and a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling from St. Cloud State University. She is a certified rehabilitation counselor and a licensed independent clinical social worker.
Sandstrom served as a mentor and member of the research team for the Midwest Regional Head Injury Center for Rehabilitation and Prevention. She served on two advisory committees for the Minnesota Department of Human Services: the traumatic injury advisory committee and the personal care assistant advisory committee.
Sandstrom was appointed to the council position for a representative of current or former recipients of vocational rehabilitation services. She will serve a three-year term which ends Jan. 7, 2008.
The State Rehabilitation Council advises state government on the performance of Minnesota's vocational rehabilitation programs. The council prepares an annual report for the governor and the commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.
