Ventura offers his political advice to Schwarzenegger

Posted: Monday, August 11, 2003

Former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura has a question for Arnold Schwarzenegger -- "Arnold, what the heck are you doing?"

In an essay in Time Magazine to be published Monday, Ventura offers Schwarzenegger his advice on lobbyists and the media now that his fellow action-movie actor is running for governor in the California recall election. Ventura even offers advice on advice.

"Some of it will have checks attached," Ventura writes. "Whatever you do, keep your distance from special-interest groups, powerful lobbyists and their dirty money."

Ventura ran for governor in 1998 as a third-party candidate and beat established Democratic and Republican candidates. He declined to run for a second term in 2002.

Ventura tells Schwarzenegger that leaving Hollywood to get into politics means he should "forget agents and studio bosses -- now you're dealing with real predators."

Ventura also warns Schwarzenegger about the media.

"I know you think you have a thick skin, but take my word for it -- the press is brutal," Ventura writes. "The stuff it comes up with is nothing like a bad review for a recently released film."
