BAXTER -- Rodney C. Sims, age 82, of Baxter, passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at the St. Cloud Hospital after living at the St. Cloud Veteran's Home for two years. He was born Feb. 22, 1921, on the family farm north of Aldrich, to Bob and Madge (Hoffman) Sims. He attended school in Aldrich and Staples and graduated from Brainerd High School in 1940. He served his country during WW II as a staff sergeant in the 16th Bomber Squadron on Guam. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Bruggman at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd on Nov. 6, 1947. He worked as a machine operator for the railroad in Brainerd until his retirement in 1980. Rodney was an avid bowler, winning many trophies. He was Quartermaster of the local VFW No. 1647 for several years and was a member of the National VFW. He was also a member of NARVAE and AARP.
Rodney is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 55 years; a daughter, Carol Sims of Baxter; two sons, Charles (Margaret) Sims of Rapid City, S.D.; and Donald (Jean) Sims of Hanover; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Norma Jean Sims of Richfield, and Bonnie Sims of California. His parents, a son, Michael, and three brothers, Robert, Ralph and Darrel, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 16, 11 a.m. at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter with the Rev. Darrell Pedersen officiating. Burial will be at the Baxter City Cemetery. Friends may visit at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter on Friday, Aug. 15 from 6-8 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
