COLD SPRING -- Andy Bulson pitched a complete game and Steve Huls homered to lead the Cold Spring Springers past the Brainerd Bees 7-1 in the winners bracket of the Region 7B amateur baseball tournament Friday.
Bulson walked two, struck out seven, allowed five hits and no earned runs to get the win.
Huls hit a two-run homer off losing pitcher Mike Shogren in the first inning. He finished 2-for-4. Teammates Ron Terres and Ben Griffin also each collected two hits.
Bruce Ericson pitched six spotless innings in relief of Shogren. Ericson gave up two hits, one walk, struck out two and faced only one batter above the minimum for six innings.
Tim Martin led the Bees at the plate, going 3-for-4. Josh Smith was 1-for-3 with a sacrifice fly that scored the Bees' only run in the eighth. Chris Macy was also 1-for-3 for Brainerd.
The Bees were scheduled to play the Ultimate/Coon Rapids loser 4 p.m. Saturday with the winner advancing to the Class B state tournament.
