SWANVILLE -- Emma J. Hartwig, 92, Swanville, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
She was born Oct. 13, 1908, in Bruce Township, Todd County, to J.W. and Sophia (Carlson) Strom. She grew up on a farm in Bruce Township. She attended country school and graduated from Swanville High School in 1927. She worked at Stith's Grocery Store in Swanville. She married William Hartwig on June 5, 1930, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Swanville. They lived on a farm in Culdrum Township in Morrison County. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and St. Peter's Lutheran Ladies Aid group.
Survivors include a son, Milo Hartwig, Swanville; three daughters, Wilma Hedin, Swanville, and Elaine Johnson and Gladys Schultz, both of Long Prairie; a sister, Edith Johnson, Spring, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Her husband died in 1968 and two grandsons; two brothers, Albert Arthur and Elmer Strom; and three sisters, Clara Yort, Myrtle Holmen and Hilda Dettler, died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Swanville with the Rev. John O. Grein officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in Swanville.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the Shelley-Gibson Funeral Chapel in Swanville and one hour before services Monday at the church.
