Donald Sidney Skillings, born April 1, 1934, died on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, at 9 p.m. after a valiant battle with cancer at home, as always with a smile on his face. Don was born in Brainerd. He married Gwendolyn Marie Fradet in 1958. They raised three children, Leonard, David and Rebecca. Don was a Korean War Marine Corps veteran. Don retired from the Brainerd Regional Human Services Center after many years of devoted service to the challenged individuals who entered there. Don was an active volunteer in the Brainerd area. He was rarely recognized for his accomplishments as that was how he wanted it. Don left footprints on many hearts over the years. He will be missed.
Don is survived by his wife, Gwen; his sons, Leonard (Chris) Huber, and David (Michelle); a daughter, Becky (Jeff Frankum). He had several grandkids which were very dear to him: Jessica, Eric and Aaron Frankum, Joshua and Cassandra Skillings, Donald and David Skillings; his sisters, Donna, Eileen, Lawanna; and his brother, Dwight.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy; and his parents, Sidney and Alice (Johnson).

A gathering of family and friends will take place on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
