The Morrison County attorney's office reported that on Oct. 8, 2007, an officer with the Little Falls Police Department stopped the driver of the mini-bike that was weaving left and right and crossing the center line of the road.

Elaine M. Johnson, age 92, resident of Brainerd, passed away Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at Good Samaritan Village-Bethany. Elaine was born on Sept. 15, 1916, in Little Falls, Minn., to Carl (Charles) and Dorothy (Niemeyer) Eue. She married Ernest Clarence Johnson in December 1936 in Brainerd. Elaine worked at Hickerson Garment Factory for many years and then worked as a dental assistant to Dr. Lloyd Arhart, retiring in 1977. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

MOTLEY - Gladys Saterbak, age 94, of Motley, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, in Bemidji. A funeral service is planned for Tuesday, Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church in Staples with Pastor Steve Sveom officiating. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Eids Cemetery in Ortonville.

Ivan Lee Shantz, age 86, of Brainerd, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at his home following a six-month battle with cancer. Ivan's son, Roger Shantz of Burnsville and his daughter, Eldora Huffman of Brainerd were at his bedside as he peacefully entered into the presence of His Lord.

When Wisconsin and Minnesota governors this spring announced a plan to have their governments join forces and save money through efficiencies and purchasing power, they put the potential savings at a combined $20 million.
Just trying to plug some holes
When school districts fail to receive enough state funding dollars to adequately educate our kids, they sometimes call for a referendum, which asks citizens to voluntarily increase their property taxes to support their schools. This is not unlike what some lake associations are trying to do by creating Lake Improvement Districts (LIDs).
