MOTLEY -- Adolph "Bud" Raymond Etzler, age 84, of Motley, died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, at Lakewood Health System Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005, at the Lincoln Evangelical Free Church near Cushing with Pastor Brian Burton officiating. Interment will be in the Cushing Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Adolph was born April 25, 1921, in Fawn Lake Township, Todd County, Minn., to Anton and Albina "Kate" (Kastonek) Etzler. He was called from this life Thursday afternoon at the Lakewood Health System Hospital in Staples. He attained the age of 84 years, three months and nine days.
Adolph grew up in Fawn Lake Township and attended a country school there. After his schooling he helped on the family farm and also worked for neighbors. He enlisted in the Army serving his country overseas. On June 18, 1949, he was united in marriage to June Stroman in Little Falls, Minn. To this union 12 children were born. Adolph and June were able to share almost 56 years of marriage together. After their marriage he worked for the railroad for awhile and then for a sugar beet plant. The couple purchased some acreage near Motley and settled there. Adolph was a bulldozer operator and also became an expert blacksmith and welder, being able to fix anything people brought to him. He built his own sawmill and many other tools and equipment he needed. Among the things he enjoyed were gardening and canning, ice fishing, salmon fishing and reading western novels. He slowed down after breaking his hip when he was 80. He will always he remembered for his wit and sayings. Adolph was a member of Lincoln Evangelical Free Church, the Randall VFW Post and the NRA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Kate; three brothers, Johnny, Harvey and Vernon; and a sister, Caroline. Adolph is mourned in passing by his wife of 56 years, June; children, Donald, of Motley, Roger (Teresa), of Nisswa, Paul (Rebecca), of South St. Paul, Mike, of Browerville, Phyllis (Mark) Plattner, of Staples, Lois (Dwayne) Walters, of Eagan, Chet (Shelia), of Staples, Tim, of Pillager, Randy (Tracie), of Staples, Nancy (Scott) Purington, of North Branch, Kelly (Jamie), of Menahga, and Tony, of Staples; 27 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray (Alice) Etzler, of Kalispell, Mont.; and two sisters, Donna (Terry) Friedrich, of Isle, Minn., and Marie (Elmer) Rosenow, of Alexandria.
