VINCENNES, Ind. -- The Baxter Pepsi/Twins 10-and under baseball team ran into a buzz saw Saturday in its opening game of the Cal Ripken World Series tournament, losing 12-2 to Olympia, Wash.
Matt Pikula had two of the Twins' three hits and drove in both runs. Olympia wasted little time as it scored six of its 12 runs in the first two innings and totaled 13 hits in the game.
Baxter got on the board in the first inning as T.J. Perpich was hit by a pitch and later scored on a single by Pikula.
In the third Cole Smith drew a walk and moved over on a Perpich single. Pikula then drove in Smith for his second RBI of the game.
Pikula took the loss on the mound while Mitchell McLain and Matt Doss also saw time atop the mound for Baxter.
