Mini summit planned at Lakewood
BAXTER - The Crow Wing County Caring Community Initiative mini summit will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at Lakewood Church in Baxter.

Recently, Rural Minnesota CEP was the recipient of a mini-grant from the America's Promise Alliance and State Farm to host a summit in the community regarding youths and graduation rates. Along with Lutheran Social Services and the Paul Bunyan Educational Cooperative, organizers have started to form a committee regarding youths, graduation and the assets that are and are not present in the community that can help to strengthen all youths and increase the likelihood that kids will graduate from high school.

Red Cross blood drive planned

The Red Cross will host a blood drive from noon-6 p.m. Aug. 13 and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 14 at the American Legion in Pequot Lakes. All blood types are needed but there is a special need for type O positive blood right now. Donors must be at least 16 years of age and weigh 110 pounds. A signed Red Cross parental/guardian consent form is necessary for those 16 years of age. One may be downloaded at givebloodgivelife.org. All donors will need two forms of identification and a driver's license, or two other forms of identification.

Good Samaritan motorcycle ride Aug. 23

PINE RIVER - The fourth annual motorcycle ride to raise money for care center remodeling at Good Samaritan Society-Pine River is planned Aug. 23.

The ride is about three hours long covering 105 miles of scenic views. Riders will arrive back at the Pine River Good Samaritan Care Center where there will be an outside dinner celebration. This supper, starting at 4 p.m., is open to the public for $5 per person.

Good Samaritan reported the fundraiser is needed as a way to fill the gaps in funding for older adult services.

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 23 at the Jenkins VFW with an opening ceremony at 11:15 a.m. The ride starts at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $20 per rider. In-kind donations and donated door prizes or silent auction items are welcome.
