Brainerd's 194th Tank Battalion has been alerted for deployment this fall and the Family Readiness Group HHC 1-194 is raising funds to support them -- by selling magnetic "Support our Troops" ribbons.
The Family Readiness Group supports Army and Air National Guard members and their families and members of other service branches. The Minnesota National Guard Headquarters and Headquarters Company 1st Battalion 194th Armor Division are based in Brainerd.
The magnetic ribbons -- in yellow or red, white and blue -- may be placed on vehicles. The ribbons are $5 each with all proceeds going to the 194th Family Support Group to help the soldiers and their families.
Ribbons may be purchased at the American Legion, VFW, Ace Hardware, Cub Foods (Brainerd and Baxter) and Birgit's Jewelers. Orders may be called into the Family Readiness Group by contacting Pam Biermaier at 828-1083.
For more information, contact Betty Hayes at 829-4900.

58 cities haven't yet reported financial information
All cities with populations above 2,500 and selected cities below 2,500 use Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to record financial information.
GAAP cities are required by law to report the previous year's financial information to the state auditor's office by June 30 of each year. Cities that fail to report the required financial information run the risk of delaying, or losing, their Local Government Aid payment.
Fifty-eight cities in Minnesota have not yet reported their financial information, including Aitkin and Cass Lake, the state auditor's office said in a news release.
Because of extraordinary extenuating circumstances, several cities were granted extensions in August, including Crosby and McGregor.
State auditor releases unclaimed funds for Manhattan Beach
State Auditor Pat Anderson recently authorized the release of more than $2,000 in tax increment money to Manhattan Beach.
The funds were being held by Crow Wing County under a state law that barred their distribution until the city filed overdue tax-increment financing reports for 2002-2003. The city recently filed the required reports.
Manhattan Beach was the last remaining authority in the state with TIF funds being withheld because of a failure to report the required financial information from previous years, the state auditor's office said in a news release.
