Firefighters doused flames that engulfed a motor home owned by Duane Kunitz Thursday morning. IRONTON -- Forty-four years ago this month, the Nokay Lake Country School was sold for $275 to the highest bidder, one of 22 country schools auctioned off during a three-day period by the Brainerd School District when the district was consolidated in 1960.

Your paper certainly showed its liberal bias in reporting on the two states that voted on same sex marriages. On Page 1 (Thursday), a huge news story reported on Washington state, which a judge said will allow same sex marriages. However, buried in a small article on the bottom of Page 9A was an article on Missouri, which overwhelmingly rejected anything but heterosexual marriages. Why the one-sidedness?

Duck season similar to last year

After many months of meetings, grant writing, fund raising and planning by youth and adults, we now have a state-of-the-art skatepark at Jaycee's Park in southeast Brainerd. On Thursday, July 22, we watched a dream unfold before our eyes as the skatepark was built with over 300 volunteers participating in the build day.

Favorite Vacation Photo
Dick and Kate Carlson, Nisswa, toured Sweden in May. Along with many visits with relatives, they stayed in hostels and campground cottages. One of the hostels was located in a cultural reserve called Asens by in Aneby, Haurida, Sweden. The reserve depicts a Swedish village as it would be found in 1900. This picture not only shows a portion of the reserve but illustrates how much of rural Sweden looks today.
