Merrifield Lions to celebrate White Cane Days Aug. 17
MERRIFIELD -- The Merrifield Lions invite the community to help fight blindness at its annual White Cane Days celebration.
On Aug. 17, the Lions will be at all main stores and restaurants in Merrifield from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. distributing white canes to the public in exchange for donations.
Funds raised from White Cane Days are dedicated to sight-related projects.
Nisswa historical society to meet Aug. 14
NISSWA -- The Nisswa Area Historical Society will meet 7 p.m. Aug. 14 in the Gull Room at Grand View Lodge.
Coffee and cookies will be served. Following a brief business meeting, Jim Dullum will present a local history program on his childhood experiences growing up in Nisswa and the business climate of old Nisswa. All members, residents and interested persons are invited to attend this general meeting.
Volunteers of the historical society maintain the historic depot site and Pioneer Village on Main Street in Nisswa.

Senior computer training course set in Brainerd
The Region 5 Area Agency on Aging/Health Insurance Counseling Program is sponsoring a Senior Surf Day computer training session from 9-11 a.m. Aug. 28 at the Brainerd Public Library.
Senior Surf Days offer basic computer and Internet training to participants. The training is geared for senior citizens, age 50 and older, and caregivers.
There is no charge for the training.
