Red oaks are starting to turn brown across Minnesota. Two-lined chestnut borers are taking advantage of trees stressed by dry conditions and killing oaks near St. Cloud, Moose Lake and north of Brainerd.

Mildred Michaelis, president, and Mary Koep, a vocal anti-fluoride member, of the Brainerd City Council are in St. Paul today to meet with Gov. Al Quie and Dr. George Petterson, commissioner of health. Attorney Jack Graham will join them.

Many of Brainerd's parking meters will be changed from one to two-hour parking periods the city council decided yesterday after a meeting with the Chamber of Commerce. The council will also lease half of the Front Street lot and meter the rest.

Levi Johnson makes his comeback Thursday at Memorial Park. The Brainerd mayor, who threw out the first pitch at the opening of the park last year, will repeat the honors at the Booster Day ballgame between the Braves and the Detroit Lakes Lakers.

The cornerstone of the new Washington High School was laid Saturday with a brief ceremony attended by some school board members and students from the class of 1928. The new school will replace that which burned to the ground last year.

C. F. Kerr, who recently returned from Cass County, reports that the grasshoppers are utterly devastating the fields of clover and grain there and completely ruining them.
