BUCKMAN - A day after a stunning come back to upset the Sobieski Skis, Randall almost duplicated the feat as the Cubs, who trailed St. Stephen 9-2 scored twice in the sixth and four times in the seventh to pull within one, only to lose 9-8 to the Steves and be eliminated from the Region 8C playoffs Sunday.

Randall's Jason Karnowski went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Nick Prozinski had two hits and drove in a pair of runs while Jason Peterschick went 2-4 with a run scored for the Cubs.

St. Mathias 1

BUCKMAN - The Holdingford Express scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat the St. Mathias Devils 4-1 in the winner's bracket of the Region 8C tournament Sunday.

Dan Rocheleau, who took the loss on the mound, went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Devils. Jake Johnson was 2-3 and Joe Tautges had a hit and scored the lone St. Mathias run.

St. Mathias will take on the St. Stephen Steves 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 in Buckman in an elimination game.

Sobieski 8

BUCKMAN - The Randall Cubs made an astonishing come back as it scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to stun and eliminate the defending region champion Sobieski Skis 9-8 in the Region 8C playoffs Saturday.

Randall entered the ninth trailing 8-4 when Ricky Drew led off with a walk and Kevin Knopik and Brian Hanson singled to load the bases. A double by Jason Karnowski plated two runs.

Nick Prozinski, Matt Martin and Chad Stadum all drew walks to score two more runs and tie the game. The Matt Swanson, who picked up the win on the mound, laced a single to center field to give the Cubs the victory.

Hanson finished with three hits while Jason King, Karnowski, Stadum and Swanson all had a pair of hits each.

Sobieski's Joe Thoma had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs in the loss. Aaron Hennes, Beau Hanowski, Nate Olson, Jon Czech, Brad Czech and Jeff Thoma all finished with a pair of hits each.

Fort Ripley 1

BUCKMAN - St. Stephen scored two runs in the first inning with three straight doubles and never looked back as the Steves eliminated the Fort Ripley Rebels 5-1 in the Region 8C tournament Saturday.

Tim Veith went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI while Curt Veith had a hit and scored the Rebels' only run. Brett Kramer and Scot LeBlanc each picked up a hit in the loss.
