That sigh of relief you may have heard yesterday was the response of Brainerd water users to news that our tap water is now safe to drink.

30 years ago (1977)

A turkey barbecue was held all day as part of the Mille Lacs Lake walleye festival in Garrison. There was corn on the cob and rides for the youngsters.

40 years ago (1967)

Jerry Palmer, breaking 48 of 50 including 27 in a row, claimed high percentages Sunday at Uncle Tom's Trap Club on North Long Lake.

60 years ago (1947)

Only .41 of an inch of precipitation fell over this locality during July. The July average is 3.75 inches. Higher temperatures for the month was 100 degrees. Minimum reading was 41 degrees.

80 years ago (1927)

Brainerd landed the state Moose convention for 1928, according to a telegram received today from International Falls.

100 years ago (1907)

The first nights of the carnival the grounds were brilliantly lighted and thronged with sightseers. The lighting effects were fine and the shows were well patronized and seemed to give good satisfaction generally.
