Ruth Gogolin and Rita Hamann
Hometown: Both have lived in Brainerd most of their lives
Family: Ruth has two daughters and one son. Rita's family includes husband Ron, two daughters and one son.
Volunteer activities: Ruth volunteers with Hospice (in the office and with patients), Brainerd Regional Human Services Center (office) and is on the volunteer council there as the treasurer, on the board at RSVP Volunteer Services, secretary for the library, and is a Friend of the Library helping with the book sale. Rita is a member of Friends of the Library and co-chairs the used book sale with Ruth.
I volunteer because: Ruth volunteers to keep busy and for the rewarding experience. Rita volunteers in a field that she loves, both libraries and books.
My most rewarding volunteer experience: Ruth stated working with Hospice patients and helping them at the end of their life cycle. Rita likes helping the library raise money so it can be a place for people to come and share in her passion of books.
Nominated by: Dawn Stattine, Friends of the Brainerd Public Library, who said Ruth and Rita are co-chairs of the Friends of the Library's biggest fundraiser and together sort and organize the books to make a successful event.
