The Cellular 2000 Chargers 35-over baseball team dropped two games at the Menahga tournament Saturday, losing to Dent 5-3 and Sebeka 11-8.
Against Dent, the Chargers had just two hits, by Terry Brink and Ken LeCocq, who took the pitching loss.
Against Sebeka, Brink went 2-for-4, Joe Rubado 2-for-3 and Jeff Howard 4-for-5. Jeff Lutz was the losing pitcher.
The Chargers rebounded in a doubleheader Sunday by sweeping the Alexandria Classic Clippers 9-7 and 8-3.
In the first game, Rubado and Howard went 2-3 with two RBI, and Zeke Zilka drove in two runs. Lutz clinched the win with a bases-clearing double in the sixth and also pitched a complete game.
In game two, Gary Thompson went 2-3, Joel Newton was 2-3 with two RBI, Lutz went 3-3 with a double, LeCocq was 2-3 with one RBI and Jerry Oakley drove in three runs with a double. LeCocq pitched the victory.
State softball tourney at Staples
The Staples Softball Association will host the Minnesota Sports Federation Class D women's state softball tournament Saturday and Sunday in Staples and Wadena.
Twenty-two teams from around the state will compete for the right to advance to the West Nationals in Oregon on Sept. 18-21.
Area teams in the tournament are from Brainerd and Aitkin.
Games will begin at 9 a.m. with the last game Saturday slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. at both complexes.
On Sunday semifinal action starts at 9 a.m. with the championship game at 4:20 p.m.
Games will be played at Gary Otteson Memorial Fields at Dower Lake, two miles west of Staples, and at the Wadena City Complex.

Coborn's captures JVL Rookie title
The Little Falls Coborn's fourth-fifth grade team won the Junior Victory League Rookie Championship last week with a 4-2 win over the Randall Lions.
LF Coborn's finished the year with a 12-5 record.
Team members included Michel Wetzel, Bryan Majerus, Mitchel Dorn, Logan Weisz, Mitchel Lundeen, Joe Kula, Thomas Gaines, Matt Hanowski, Matt Masog, Eric Hegna, Brandon Waldoch, James Pettit and Devin Okerman.
The team was coached by Mike Kaluza, Jamie Gaffke and Stefan Ronchetti.
Dolphin Swim Team starts Oct. 6
The Brainerd Family YMCA's Dolphin Swim Team will begin practices for the 2003 - 2004 season Oct. 6.
The Dolphin Swim Team is a competitive program for boys and girls ages 5 and up. Swimmers should be competent in at least one competitive stroke.
A parents' informational meeting is scheduled 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at the YMCA. Registration deadline is Sept. 29.
Practices are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Meets are on Saturdays. The season lasts from October through February.
