20 years ago (1983)

About 15,500 people, slightly more than last year, yesterday attended the fourth day of the Crow Wing Fair. The annual motocross drew its largest crowd ever at the grandstand.

30 years ago (1973)

Carl E. Erickson, Crow Wing County attorney, told the county board of commissioners that the county's zoning ordinance does not permit a music festival to be held at Donnybrooke.

40 years ago (1963)

A relaxed, informal Gov. Karl Rolvaag had lunch with members of the Brainerd Paul Bunyan Vacationland Association board of directors and members of the press and then visited Paul Bunyan Center where the association's annual picnic was in progress.

60 years ago (1943)

Aviation cadet Virgil Austin of the Naval Air Corps returned last night to Yankton, South Dakota for further training after being home on leave.

80 years ago (1923)

A last tribute will be paid to President Warren G. Harding on Friday afternoon when Brainerd citizens will assemble in Gregory Park. Church and other bells will toll from 3:00 to 3:10 p.m. The president's favorite hymns will be sung.

100 years ago (1903)

You packed your pretty dresses, dear,

And came along with me.

To spend a portion of the year,

In basking by the sea.

And thus it happens every year;

we feel that we must roam.

While wishing we were home.
