Several people suffered abrasions after the Tilt-O-Whirl ride at the Crow Wing County Fair broke Tuesday night, sending pieces flying into the crowd, the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department said.
Rosanne Caughey, fair president, said a fiberglass bonnet atop the ride fell off, hit the side of the bucket and broke apart.
The ride broke about 10:10 p.m. Sheriff's Chief Deputy Irv Tollefson said the injuries were described as minor. He said the deputy did shut down the ride. Caughey said carnival operators told her no one was injured.
The ride is owned by Hildebrand's Midway of Fun Inc., based in Lighthouse Point, Fla.
