FAIRMONT (AP) -- Sixty jobs will be affected with the announced closing of the Greenlee Textron Inc. plant by the end of March.
"This was an extremely difficult decision to make," Barclay S. Olson, Greenlee Textron president, said in a statement.
The company cited "a widespread market softening" in the U.S. non-residential construction market.
Earlier this month, Greenlee Textron said it was looking at consolidating its electrical contractor tool manufacturing operations to utilize existing operational capacity.
"The group in Fairmont has always been dedicated to producing quality products and to serving our customers. However, we believe this consolidation will have long-term benefits to all of our customers as we fully utilize our manufacturing capacity," Olson said.
Laid-off workers will receive severance and outplacement assistance, he said.
