Lester Kinney

MINNEAPOLIS -- Lester Kinney, 86, died July 9, 2005, at Veterans Home in Minneapolis.

Lester was born Dec. 3, 1918, in Brainerd to Alice and Arrin Kinney. He grew up and attended school at Barrows. He later moved with his family to Pine Center area.

He was inducted into the Army, the 503rd Coast Guard, artillery anti-aircraft, in 1942. He spent four years in the service, two years in the Aleutian Islands. Lester married Joan Crowell July 26, 1950. They later divorced.

Survived by daughter, Deanna Northrup (Steve), Ely, Iowa; a son, James, Texas; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Daisy Grams, Baxter; a brother, Cecil; and many aunts, uncles and cousins in the Brainerd area. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Burial service was held at Fort Snelling Cemetery on July 15.
