AKELEY - The Rollin' Rangers August campout will be Aug. 20-22 at the Akeley City Park in Akeley. Hosts are the Wodarzs and Youngs. For further information call secretary Elaine Sauer at 829-7292.

Senior dance in Backus

BACKUS - The Backus American Legion's monthly senior dance will feature Frankie Lamb playing a variety of classic country western and pop, old time and swing from 2-6 p.m. Aug. 12 at the clubrooms at Hwy. 371 and 87 West.

The dance is a part of the Backus Corn Fest weekend which includes a parade at 11 a.m. Aug. 11, a sweet corn feed following the parade, music, kids' games, a street dance, fireworks, a beer garden and other entertainment.

The Legion Auxiliary will serve breakfast in the clubrooms Sunday from 8-11:30 a.m.

Breast cancer survivor support group to meet

The August breast cancer survivor support group meeting will take place at St. Joseph's Medical Center at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the Camp Room. The meeting will feature "lunch and a movie." Popcorn will be provided. All area breast cancer survivors are invited to attend. Participants may purchase lunch in the cafeteria and proceed to the meeting rooms to the Camp Room for the program and to meet and share with other survivors.

Senior dance announced

A senior dance will be 1-4 p.m. Wednesday at Waukenabo Community Center with music by Helen and Don.

WHS class of 1955 to meet

The WHS class of 1955, spouses and friends, will meet for lunch at 11 a.m. Monday at the Ramada Inn (Buffalo Creek) in Brainerd.

N.A.R.V.R.E. meeting planned

The National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Brainerd Public Library meeting. Lunch will follow. A special speaker will discuss senior issues. Members, notice the change in date of the meeting.

Chicken and corn feed scheduled

The Brainerd American Legion Past Commanders chicken and corn feed will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Legion. They will serve chicken and all-you-can-eat-sweet corn for $7 until it's gone.

Baxter National Night Out planned

BAXTER - The Baxter National Night Out community event will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Oscar Kristofferson Park behind Baxter Elementary School. The kick-off will be at 7 p.m. with a kiddie parade through the park. Line up at 6:45 p.m. at the park. The parade is open to children under the age of 11 who are encouraged to dress up, decorate bikes, wagons and/or make their own parade floats. Prizes will be awarded for the top two most creative entries.

There will be free root beer floats, face painting, a visit from Smokey the Bear, K-9 demo at 8 p.m. and child ID kits.

The event is presented by the Baxter Police Department and the Baxter Lions.

Class of 1946 to meet

The class of 1946 will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Sawmill Inn.

Shriners to meet

The Brainerd Shriners will have a soup and sandwich meeting at noon Monday at the Brainerd Shrine Club Room. Board meeting will be at 10 a.m.

Nisswa American Legion activities

NISSWA - The executive board and donations committee meetings will be 6 p.m. Monday. Farmers' Market will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in the lower parking lot. Auxiliary Juniors will meet from 1-4 p.m. Aug. 11.

Retired Firemen to have breakfast

Retired Firemen, wives and widows will meet Wednesday for breakfast at the Wings Airport Cafe.

Class of 1952

Class of 1952 will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday for lunch at the Ramada.

VFW annual picnic planned

The annual VFW Post No. 1647 and Auxiliary family picnic will begin at noon Sunday at St. Mathias Park. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to pass. There will be games for the children.

VFW activities

The VFW men's auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the VFW clubrooms. Members are urged to attend the meeting.

The VFW fish fry will be from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday. Cost: $7. Reservations appreciated by calling the VFW club at 829-6393.
