A semitrailer and a car collided head-on on U.S. 169 Wednesday afternoon, rupturing the semitrailer's fuel tank on impact and leaving the semi in flames, the State Patrol reported.
The crash was reported at 1:43 p.m. in Mille Lacs County.
The semitrailer was traveling south on U.S. 169. The driver, Bryan Cherrier, 42, Inver Grove Heights, did not appear to be injured. The car driver, Patrick Nelson, 24, Elk River, suffered a non life-threatening injury.
The State Patrol reported Cherrier was able to get out of the cab and somehow Nelson got out of the car and crawled west across the field away from the searing flames.
