About 400 participants on 39 teams raised $122,500 during Friday night's Relay for Life at Brainerd High School's football field.
Marcie Larsen, Brainerd office manager for the American Cancer Society, said that compares favorably to the total of $108,000 that was raised in 2003. This is the 12th year the Relay for Life was conducted at Don Adamson Field.
Nisswa man wins $100,000 in lottery
NISSWA -- Bruce Fremstad, Nisswa, won $100,000 after purchasing a winning Jackpot Gold scratch ticket at the Triangle Store in Nisswa Tuesday.
Fremstad stops at the Nisswa store each morning while on his way to work for a cup of coffee and a lottery ticket. He said he was stunned when he scratched off the ticket at work to reveal the winning numbers.
Fremstad didn't stay at work for long. He went home to get two of his children before heading to Roseville to claim his prize. Fremstad matched three $100,000 amounts in Game 5 of the Jackpot Gold Scratch Game, entitling him to the game's top prize of $100,000.
"I was hoping to win $100," Fremstad said at lottery headquarters. "I never dreamed $100,000."
Historic council to meet at Mille Lacs
ONAMIA -- Gov. Tim Pawlenty will be among members of the Federal Advisory Council on Historic Preservation who will meet at 9 a.m. Friday at Mille Lacs Grand Casino. The group will discuss program development for Preserve America, a White House heritage preservation and economic development initiative, as well as Indian issues.
Blood donors needed
Blood donors are needed for the American Red Cross Bloodmobile drives planned for noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Cuyuna Range Elementary School in Crosby and from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday at the American Legion in Pequot Lakes.
Master gardeners to staff fair booth
Crow Wing County master gardeners will staff an information booth during the Crow Wing County Fair.
