Wittwer's hit gives Lightning playoff title

NISSWA - Tyler Wittwer's run-scoring double in the bottom of the eighth lifted the Nisswa Lightning to a 3-2 victory over Nimrod in the Lake and Pine League South Division playoff championship game Sunday.

Top-seeded Nisswa scored its other two runs on bases-loaded walks in the first.

Brett Jenkins pitched two innings to get the win. He allowed no runs with three strikeouts and two walks.

Aaron Jenkins picked up a save, striking out one in the ninth and hitting a batter.

Nate Dickmeyer was 1-for-2 with a double and Morgan Shepherd 2-3 for Nisswa.

Brandon Hilts pitched three innings for the Lightning, allowing two hits and two earned runs. He struck out four and walked two.

Brett Cloutier also pitched three innings, striking out six and allowing no hits and no walks.

Nisswa, which also won the regular-season division title, plays the Bertha Blazers in the opening round of the Region 14C tournament at 8 p.m. Friday at Menahga.
