BARROWS - Dan Severson and Shane Sabraski continued their hot streaks Saturday night at North Central Speedway, winning their feature events while Max Dondelinger captured his first feature win of the season.

With just a handful of races left, the points chase heats up in several classes.

Last season was Max Dondelinger's first in the Pure Stock class. Dondelinger had an agreement with his dad, D.J., that D.J. would supply the car and take care of expenses, and Max would split the winnings with his dad.

Max then took a first place at the season-ending Mighty Axe Nationals and split the first-place check with his dad.

Max said that arrangement has now ended.

"I am the sole owner," he said. "I get all the winnings but I pay the way in. I have the whole nine yards."

Max will get to keep all of the winnings from his first-place finish Saturday in a well-earned victory over Bill Nelson.

He started from row one after a victory in the heat race. The race also saw a big pileup on lap three, which ended up in Dale Boser's No. 4 car catching fire. Boser escaped unharmed but his car and two others were gone for the rest of the feature.

Bill Nelson was applying pressure on Dondelinger throughout the race and caught him on lap six, but a caution flag froze the field and gave him the front position on the restart.

The last three laps, Nelson continued to apply pressure on the low side, but Dondelinger was able to hold him off with some defensive driving and came away with the victory.

"The No. 18 (Bill Nelson) was all over me," he said.

"I thought he was going to get me down low so my thought was to stay low and hope that he didn't get by me," Dondelinger added. "Then he got up on my bumper and sent me right through the tire barrier on turn three and four but I just bounced right on through."

Entering Saturday's feature event, Mike Smude had an 18-point lead on Daaron Johnson.

Dan Severson has been a regular top-three finisher all season in the Street Stock class. He currently sits in second place in the points chase just eight points behind Tim Johnson.

Severson earned his first win of the season last week, and kept the momentum going with another win Saturday night.

Severson started from row two and took first place from Mike Kuhlman on lap eight. He managed to open up a lead and was able to win comfortably.

"We have just been dialing in the chassis," Severson said. "A quarter of an inch of shimmy here and a little bit of air pressure there. Just checking everything over every week to make sure that it is right on.

"The motor is performing great. It just flies and we put the work in on the chassis and it comes down to driving ability."

Being just eight points behind Johnson, Severson tries to avoid looking at the stats but he can't totally get away from it.

"I try not to look at it but it's in the back of my mind," he said. "We're going to go for the championship. That's what our goal is this year. If we can go out and perform the best we can every night the points will take care of themselves."

Sabraski took his fourth straight victory in his dominant No. 7 car that appears awfully hard to beat at this point. Sabraski started from row five and was in the top three within the first five laps. Mike Japp led for seven laps, but Sabraski moved past him with six laps left.

A green-white-checker gave the rest of the field one more shot at Sabraski but it was not meant to be.

The other story of the race was a second-place finish by Dan Ebert in No. 60. Ebert started in row eight and moved up 14 spots through the race. He's tied for the lead in points with Ryan Kriese, who did not race Saturday. Sabraski trails those two by just 21 points.

Mike Frolik won his fourth race of season as he led the majority of the event after a start from row three in the Super Stock feature. Dan Gullickson was second and Jeff Tardy third.

With his second-place finish, Gullickson has a 70-point lead over Derek Sweet. Gullickson has helped his cause with two victories in the last four features.

Sabraski made it a clean sweep of features as he got back on the winners' stand with a first place in the A-Modified feature. Dave Cain had won the last two features, and Sabraski said his A-Mod was not where he wanted it to be.

He has has a 68-point lead over Eric Martini, who had tire trouble in the feature.
