Deerwood Summerfest to feature variety of activities
DEERWOOD -- Deerwood Summerfest activities will run Aug. 12 and 13.
Original paintings, drawings and prints will be at Forest Road Art Studio from 9 a.m.-7 p.m., and crafts will be for sale from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., both days.
Salem Lutheran Church will offer muffins and coffee at 8 a.m. both days; a kids' carnival Aug. 12; and meatballs, lefsa, and ice cream sundaes 11 a.m.-5 p.m. both days. A polka service will take place at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 12 and the Cuyuna Range Lions food booth will sell turkey legs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. both days. David Jo and DJB's will provide dance music from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Aug. 12 at The Deerstand.
Events Aug. 13 include the Deerwood Lakes Lions Clown troupe from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. doing face painting, Wheel of Fortune and balloon twisting. The Sons of American Legion and Cuyuna Range Lions Club will have a Kiddy Pedal Tractor Pull for ages 5-11 with registration at noon. Winners will qualify for the state pull. Salem Lutheran Church will offer hot dogs, hog roast sandwiches, pop, water, a car wash and kids' games. A rummage sale and silent auction will run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Lutheran Lounge Act will perform at 7 p.m.
Throughout the weekend the Deerwood American Legion will offer coffee, caramel rolls and sloppy joes. Biscuit and gravy breakfasts and cheese curds, pork on a stick and more will be available at the Legion by the Sons of American Legion. Singer-guitarist Cactus Willie will perform 11 a.m.-3 p.m., as well as 4:30 p.m., both days. Bingo will be noon-4 p.m. Aug. 13 by the Deerwood Fire Department Auxiliary.
A senior dance will be held 1-4 p.m. Aug. 13 with music by the John and Virginia Shogren Band. Beef and corn will be offered 4-8 p.m. Aug. 13 and desserts will be available by St. Joseph's CCW of Deerwood.
First Responders will offer blood pressure checks 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 13 on Main Street. There will be a turkey and ham raffle at 4 p.m. that day. The Cuyuna Range Lions will offer turkey legs 9 a.m.-4 p.m. both days. Music for the street dance Aug. 13 will be by The Fabulous Stool Pigeons from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. at Coach's Corner.
