Showers and thunderstorms were expected Thursday in much of the East ahead of a cold front moving in from the Ohio Valley. Storms also were forecast over the northern and central Plains and parts of the Southwest.
The most concentrated thunderstorm activity was expected in the Mid-Atlantic states, with damaging winds over 60 mph, large hail, locally heavy downpours and flash flooding possible.
A low pressure system over Nevada was expected to move eastward throughout the day, spreading showers and thunderstorms into southern Wyoming, Colorado and Arizona.
Other storms were expected over the Dakotas, as well as Nebraska and Kansas.
