Phil Markert of Lakeshore set three Minnesota masters state weightlifting records July 24 in the World Masters Games at Edmonton, Alberta.
Competing in the age 70-75 age group, Markert lifted 138.6 pounds in the clean and jerk and 103.4 in the snatch for a total of 242 pounds. He made all three attempts in both lifts and is 12-for-12 in his last two world meets.
At noon Aug. 13, the 12th annual Crazy Daze Open Weightlifting Championships will be conducted in the American Legion parking lot at Nisswa. Call Markert at 963-4800 to enter.
Holdingford advances in region tourney
PIERZ -- Joel Swenson pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to lift the Holdingford Express past the Randall Cubs 6-2 in a winners' bracket game of the Region 8C amateur baseball tournament Sunday.
With one out and the bases loaded, Swenson got a strikeout and fly out to end the game.
Chris Ebnet and Eric Meyer doubled for Holdingford. Jason Bruns drove in two runs and Joe Nelson one.
Randall's Jason King was 2-for-5 with a double and RBI.

Wild sign tough guy Nazarov to contract
ST. PAUL (AP) -- Free agent left wing Andrei Nazarov signed a contract with Minnesota on Monday, giving the Wild one of the league's well-known veteran enforcers.
Nazarov had one goal, two assists and 125 penalty minutes in 33 games for the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2003-04 season -- his 11th in the NHL.
Bonds won't return until 2006
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Barry Bonds doesn't expect to play this season because of his injured right knee, putting the San Francisco slugger's quest for the career home run record on hold until at least 2006.
"I don't think you're going to see me out there this year," Bonds told MLB.com on Monday. "That's the reality of the situation."
