CHASKA (AP) -- Carver County authorities on Wednesday released the name of the 6-month-old boy who died several weeks after being injured while in the care of a day-care provider.
Isiah William Devine of St. Bonifacius died Tuesday as a result of injuries he suffered July 3, authorities said. At the time, he was under the care of Sheri Lynn Alger, 37, of Victoria.
Prosecutors on Tuesday charged Alger with second-degree murder and first- and second-degree manslaughter.
County social workers had checked reports of alleged abuse at Alger's home day care months before Isiah's death. Alger was allowed to keep operating after the allegations went unproved.
Isiah died at Hennepin County Medical Center, where he had been taken July 3 after a medical emergency at Alger's residence, authorities said. The child was unresponsive when rescue workers arrived at the residence and had no signs of external trauma.
He was taken to Ridgeview Medical Center and then transferred to HCMC.
