Cass sets ban on tax abatement applications

LONGVILLE -- The Cass County Board has set a moratorium on tax abatement/business incentive applications until after a county policy can be drafted within the next year.
Tax abatements are an alternate option the state Legislature authorized to tax-increment financing to stimulate economic development.
The county has an existing TIF policy.
Suggestions from cities, townships and school districts within the county will be sought before a county committee finalizes a draft tax abatement policy for the county board to consider adopting.
