Motorcycle rider course scheduled in Brainerd

Central Lakes College in Brainerd has scheduled a Basic Rider Course for motorcyclists Aug. 20, 22, and 23.

Minnesota law requires motorcyclists under age 18 to pass an approved Rider Skills Training course. Students must complete 14.5 hours of integrated instruction - 4.5 hours in the classroom and 10 hours of practice on a training motorcycle (provided).

Students must be able to ride a bicycle and must possess a valid driver's license or motor vehicle instruction permit.

It is recommended to have a permit when signing up for this class. Riders 18 and older may earn their motorcycle license by successfully completing the course (if possessing a permit).

Each student must furnish his or her own protective clothing and DOT-approved helmet and 100 percent attendance is mandatory.

The fee is $160.

Dates and times are 5:30-10 p.m. Aug. 20 and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. or 2-7 p.m. Aug. 22 and 23. Registration deadline is Aug. 13.
