13th annual Holbrook reunion planned

The 13th annual Holbrook family reunion will be Aug. 2 at Gull Lake Dam Park. Coffee and rolls will be served at 10 a.m. with a worship service at 10:30 a.m. A potluck dinner will begin at noon. Sons of Norway

ISLE - Sons of Norway - Tusenvann Lodge No. 1-659 in Isle will meet Aug. 14 at Father Hennepin State Park in Isle. There will be a potluck picnic. Shriners Club meeting

The Shriners Club will meet 7 p.m. Monday at the Log Cabin in Brainerd. Board meeting at 6 p.m. Food and beverages available from menu.

Lakes and Woods Garden Club to host Horticulture Show

AITKIN - The Lakes and Woods Garden Club will have its horticulture and produce show at 1 p.m. Aug. 8 at Westside Calvary Church in Aitkin.

Those interested in entering an exhibit in the show "Wonders of Nature," there are more than 80 classes to choose from ranging from fruit and vegetables, to flowers, floral art and traditional domestic classes. There are also classes especially for children and young people under 16 years old. Show schedules are available from the Aitkin Public Library and Chamber of Commerce. Exhibitors may bring their exhibits on Friday from 5-6 p.m. and from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Aug. 8.

There will be a plant and produce sale plus horticultural related items. Lunch will be served and People's Choice ribbons and other ribbons given out. Admission to the show is free.

American Legion events

The American Legion in Brainerd will have a Post executive board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Country fried steak by Angie Fox will be served from 5:30 p.m. until gone Thursday. Cost: $8.

Aug. 8 is military appreciation night. All National Guard and Army Reservists are invited.

Crosslake cancer survivors network to meet

CROSSLAKE - The Cancer Survivors Network will meet 3:30 p.m. Monday in the Fireside Room at Crosslake Lutheran Church in Crosslake located north and across the street from the campground on Rt. 66. The speaker for the Network will be Heather Erickson, a registered dietitian and graduate of North Dakota State University. Erickson is a lifelong resident of the lakes area and works as a dietitian at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby as director of clinical nutrition. She will discuss healthy eating habits for cancer patients before, during and after cancer treatment.

PEO CJ

Chapter CJ of PEO will meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Hostess is Pat Kaminski; co-hostess is Marit Reese. The program is by Sue Thurlow.

Jewelry and more sale

There will be a jewelry and more sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Good Samaritan Society-Bethany, 804 Wright St., Brainerd, in the Bethany Community Room. All proceeds will benefit Bethany's garden fund.

Bethany gift shop meeting

Good Samaritan Society-Bethany, 804 Wright St., Brainerd, will have its monthly gift shop meeting at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. The Auxiliary meeting will be 10 a.m. with special guest Brian Lemieux of Thrivent who will discuss the benefits of matching funds. Both meetings will be held in the Bethany Community Room.

Ray's Promenaders

Ray's Promenaders will dance at the Franklin Art Center cafeteria on Friday. C.J. Amweg will be calling for 7:30 p.m. Plus and 8-10 p.m. Mainstream. Ortons will be hosting for the club-furnished potluck lunch.

Ray's Promenaders will also be doing a demonstration dance at the Crow Wing County Fair from 8:30-10 p.m. Aug. 8. Larry Johansen will be calling.

WHS class of 1955

The Washington High School class of 1955, spouses and friends will meet for lunch at 11 a.m. Monday at the Northwind Grille.

Senior dance

DEERWOOD - A senior dance will be from 1-4 p.m. Friday at the Deerwood Legion with music by Country Pride.

Widowed Friends

The Widowed Friends will meet for lunch at 11 a.m. Monday at Bonanza. For more information, call 829-3084 or 829-2682.

Mission Possible Senior Club

The Mission Possible Senior Club will meet at noon Wednesday at the Mission Town Hall. A potluck will be followed by speaker Dale Braddy from Northland Arboretum.

Carter John Trana family benefit planned

CROSSLAKE - There will be a spaghetti dinner benefit for the Carter John Trana family from 3-8 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Crosslake American Legion, 35112 County Road 3, Crosslake. Cost for adults, $10; children 4-12, $4; and children 3 and under are free. There will also be a silent auction.

Carter John was a six-year-old adventurous and barefoot boy who was in constant motion. He died in an accident at his home on May 24.

There is a Carter Trana Family Trust Fund set up at all Wells Fargo Banks and Northern National Bank.

Proceeds from the benefit will help the Trana family with the unexpected cost of the funeral, counseling and no medical insurance.
