Allyn H. Nelson family establishes endowment
The Central Lakes College Foundation received a $10,000 donation to create an endowment in memory of Allyn H. Nelson of Brainerd.
Nelson, who died May 28, taught college courses in Brainerd from 1969-1991. He graduated from Mankato State University and earned a master of arts in mathematics from Boston College.
The scholarship fund was created by his wife, Delores, and children, Tim Nelson and Karen Hislop. The family has designated the earnings from the endowment to a student attending Central Lakes College who is in his/her second semester of their second year.
The scholarship will not be based on need, however, the family would like to have the recipient be involved in community projects and working on educational goals. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required for eligibility.
Memorials continue to be accepted to this fund and may be sent to the Central Lakes College Foundation, 501 West College Drive, Brainerd, MN, 56401. For information contact Diane Scearcy at 855-8129.
