One thousand paper plates, containing the names of free or reduced cost items will be thrown to shoppers at 7:59 a.m. Friday from the roof of Montgomery Ward to kick of Crazy Days at the Brainerd Mall.

For the first time in history, property taxes went up in all of Minnesota's 87 counties. Property taxes in Crow Wing County increased 30.25 percent from 6,539,931 in 1974, to 8,517,951 in 1975.

The Brainerd City Council granted a petition to vacate certain streets and alleys in northeast Brainerd and thus cleared the way for construction of a $2 million shopping center by Joe Gustafson.

An elephant belonging to the Cole Brothers Circus, which is in Brainerd awaiting repair to cars damaged in a derailing accident, broke loose from its stake in the animal tent and went for a stroll down Washington Street.
80 years ago (1925)
The Elks State Convention at Brainerd, Aug. 20 and 21, gives every assurance of being one of the best attended conventions in the history of the state association. Twenty bands and drum corps are expected for its colorful parade.

Victor Wickstrom has broken ground for his new house which is to cost $2,500 and will be one of the finest residences in Deerwood.
