NISSWA -- The Nisswa Area Historical Society will hold a general business meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Grand View Lodge.
Everyone is welcome to share stories and ideas with members and visitors. Immediately following will be a program presented by Nancy Thompson, Nisswa historian, on "the old Nisswa Theatre Group."

Cass Lake's Star Island topic of program
WALKER -- The Cass County Historical Society will host a program on the history of Star Island, which is surrounded by Cass Lake, at 7 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Cass County Museum in Walker.
Presenter will be Carol Ryan, Ph.d., University of Minnesota, an oral historian and a retired faculty member and dean at Metropolitan State University in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Ryan has collected family histories from Star Island that are preserved in her book, "Star Island, A Minnesota Summer Community," which was published in 2000.
One particular chapter has written reminiscences and a oral interview from five of Star Island's earliest residents, beginning in the early 1900s. Ryan will have copies available to buy.

Cullen Lakes Association to hold annual meeting
NISSWA -- The 20th annual meeting of the Cullen Lakes Association will be Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Nisswa American Legion. Business meeting will begin at 4 p.m., with buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m.
Since its organization in 1980, CLA has been active in collection of data on the Cullen Lakes and their watershed, and recently developed a Lake Management Plan, which was approved by the membership at the 2000 annual meeting.
Topic of this year's evening speaker will be lakescaping, focusing on shoreline maintenance. Tom Beaver, a resident of Lower Cullen, will present ideas on efficient methods of maintaining vegetation and controlling shoreline erosion.

Pequot Lakes to host
all-class reunion
PEQUOT LAKES -- The 28th annual Pequot Lakes All-Class Reunion will be held Sunday, Aug. 12, at the high school. All former students, graduates, faculty and friends are invited to attend.
The reunion will begin with registration and social hour at noon, followed by a brief business meeting and a potluck dinner at 1 p.m. Meats, beverages and utensils will be furnished. Bring hot dishes, salads, desserts, bread or rolls to share.
Presentation of the honored class, the Class of 1951, will follow the dinner. Class President Jim Nickish said there will be a class reunion Saturday, Aug. 11, and he anticipated about 20 would attend the All-Class Reunion on Aug. 12.
