Three Brainerd teams are traveling to national youth tournaments this week.
The teams include the Brainerd Warriors 14-under baseball team, the Brainerd Hornets 16-under softball team and the Brainerd Storm Junior Olympic 14-under team.
The Warriors will play in the National Baseball Congress "Hap" Dumont World Series Aug. 3-8 in Manhattan, Kan.
Warriors assistant coach Mark Germain noted that five of the 13 players traveling to the World Series have played together for the last four years, making up the team's nucleus.
"We've got a really good group of kids this year," Germain said. "The team has jelled together very well. We're looking forward to a fun trip and it'll be sad to see the season end."
Warriors making the trip to Kansas are Grant Eller, Tony Hennen, Scott Williams, Kyle Holbrook, Tom Andrew, Gabe Solseth, Tyler Hassel, Mike Germain, Adam Hahnert, Jay Rakowski, Korey Horn, Adian Kummet, Jake Chisholm and coaches Bruce Ericson, Kevin Ericson and Mark Germain.
The Hornets travel to Meridian, Miss., for the national 16-under softball tournament Aug. 2-5. The Hornets have an experienced squad, with 10 of the 12 traveling to Meridian having played in a national tournament before.
Last year's Hornets placed ninth overall. Head coach Bob Sullivan is confident the team can improve on that finish.
"We think we can play with the best in the country," Sullivan said. "We'll be going up against teams that are equal to us and we've got experience working for us. The nerves are gone -- we're just going to give it our best shot and hope to improve on last year."
Hornets traveling to Mississippi are Megan Arns, Erin Donnelly, Sara Anderson, Kaly Hoheisel, Jackie Sullivan, Sacha Holbrook, Whitney Hoheisel, Amanda Monnier, Kelli Kelm, Haley Bower, Alyssa Anderson, Leigha Walters, Ashley Rodriquez, and coaches Bob Sullivan, Bruce Holbrook and Chuck Arns.
The Storm travel to Bloomington, Ind., to compete in the 14-under softball national tournament.
They qualified for national competition by winning the Minnesota state tournament earlier this summer. Like the Hornets, the Storm will bring experience to the field when they compete Aug. 3-5. The team placed in the top 20 in the 12-under national tournament two summers ago and most of the players from that team are returning.
The Storm's roster includes Kelsey Anderson, Laura Bernu, Samantha Dockter, Elizabeth Ellens, Trista Kassulker, Lauren Kirkpatrick, Alison LeBlanc, Stacy Lingwall, Kaitlyn Manlick, Sierra Sibert, Hilary Smith, Elizibeth Tadych and coaches Mark Tadych, Clyde Dockter, and Greg Smith.
