NEW YORK (AP) -- Busy is an understatement for most parents, and shaving a few seconds off the daily routine could make the difference between staying on time and running late.
Debbie Williams, author of "Home Management 101: A Guide for Busy Parents" (Champion Press), says she can help. Her book aims to help families set goals, establish boundaries and change habits in an effort to increase quality time.
Organization -- as in the art of being able to find things without looking in every drawer, closet and hiding space -- is a sure-thing timesaver, says Williams.
The "bright ideas" in her books including organizing the refrigerator, photographs and the diaper bag.
She suggests keeping the following checklist in the outer pocket of the diaper bag so the supplies can be quickly assessed: medicine, extra powdered formula and water, pacifier, change of clothes, diapers, wipes, changing pad, burp pad, blanket, small toy, breast pads (if nursing), clean shirt for mom or dad, gallon-size plastic bags.
