Summerfest in Deerwood to feature variety of events

DEERWOOD -- Deerwood's annual summer celebration, Summerfest, will run Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10 and 11.

Activities on Aug. 10 will include crafters from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; bake sale, coffee and rolls at 8 a.m. at the Deerwood American Legion; and the Deerwood Open Golf Tournament at 1 p.m. at Cuyuna Country Club. Salem Lutheran Church will serve meatballs, lefse and ice cream sundaes 3 to 6 p.m., followed by an outdoor concert at 6 p.m.

The Deerwood American Legion will serve lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., spaghetti supper from 4 to 8 p.m. and the beer garden will be open at 10 a.m.

On Aug. 11, crafters will be set up from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Deerwood American Legion will serve coffee and caramel rolls at 8 a.m. and lunch at 11 a.m. Salem Lutheran Church will sell meatballs, lefse, ice cream sundaes, hot dogs and pop from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The church will hold a car wash, kids' games and huge rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A Polka Worship Service will follow at 5 p.m. at the church.

Bingo sponsored by the Deerwood Fire Department Auxiliary will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the Deerwood American Legion. The Legion will have its Chicken Bingo from noon to 4 p.m.

The Deerwood First Responders will give free blood pressure checks from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on main street. The Deerwood Volunteer Fire Department will display its Safe House for tours from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The fire department will hold its raffle beginning at 4 p.m. at the Deerwood American Legion.

Beer garden will open at 10 a.m. and beef and corn feed will run 4 to 8 p.m. at the Deerwood American Legion. St. Joseph CCW of Deerwood will offer desserts.

Also Aug. 11, the Fabulous Stool Pigeons will provide music from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Coach's Corner in Deerwood.
