LAKE MILLE LACS

East - Work the Five Mile Gravel Bar and Highway Bar during the day for walleyes with leeches or crawlers in 28 to 30 feet. These areas also produce walleyes at night on slip bobbers and leeches, as are the nine- to 14-foot rocks in the Agate Bay area. Muskie reports have been nonexistent, but smallmouths are being caught on the rocks and docks.

West - Spinners and rainbow minnows or crawlers continue to turn walleyes on the tops and edges of the mud flats. Crankbaits and leadcore also are turning fish on top of the flats during the day. At night, get off the flats in 30 to 32 feet with slip bobbers and leeches. Look to the Eight Mile, Seven Mile, Seguchie's, and Sherman's flats for the best action. There hasn't been many people fishing muskies or pike, but smallmouth anglers are doing well with tube jigs on rock points.

LEECH LAKE AREA

If the wind is blowing, a jig and minnow continues to produce walleyes along the shorelines. The day bite is slow, but the evening action is decent with live-bait rigs and leeches on the humps and deep structure in 22 to 28 feet. Trolling crankbaits along the points at night also has produced some walleyes. Fish the rock points in Portage Bay for muskies and northern pike, while the rice beds in most bays are holding largemouth bass.

LAKE WINNIBIGOSHISH

Lindy Rigs tipped with crawlers or leeches are turning walleyes on the west-side humps in 17 to 24 feet. Moxes Hole and Horseshoe Bar also have given up walleyes in 20 to 24 feet. The bigger perch have started showing up on the flats off Raven's Point in 13 to 15 feet. Muskie action has picked up near the Duck Pass and northern pike are on the bite - but most remain small.

BRAINERD/NISSWA AREA

The Merrifield end of North Long Lake is a safe bet for walleyes in 16 to 28 feet with leeches. Gull Lake is giving up a few walleyes in 20 to 30 feet, while redtails are producing walleyes and pike on Lake Edwards in 14 to 20 feet. The weedlines of North Long, Gull, Round Lake, and Lake Margaret are safe bets for panfish, bass, and northern pike.

CROSS LAKE AREA

Lindy Rigs tipped with redtails or leeches are producing walleyes in 18 to 24 feet on the Whitefish Chain, Pelican Lake, and many smaller lakes. Low-light periods have been best and there is some evening crankbait action worth noting as well. The bass bite remains consistent and northern pike are hitting big sucker minnows or spinnerbaits along the weedlines. Sunfish are being found in 12 feet, while crappies remain suspended over 14 to 16 feet.

CUSHING AREA

Bass are providing the most consistent bite with the weedlines of Lake Shamineau, Lake Alexander, and Fish Trap Lake producing nice fish. A few walleyes can be had after sunset with redtails in 20 to 26 feet on Alexander and Fish Trap. Muskie action has "slightly improved" on the aforementioned lakes, but crappies and sunfish are tough to locate.

DETROIT LAKES

Crawlers are working best for walleyes on the 16- to 20-foot weedlines of lakes Sallie, Melissa, Pelican, Big Detroit, and Big Cormorant. Look for bluegills in the weed pockets of Floyd Lake, Deadshot Bay, Melissa, and Big Detroit. You'll also find suspended crappies on these lakes over 18 to 20 feet. Muskies are hitting Suicks, BullDawgs, and CowGirls just before sunset on the cabbage beds of Pelican and Big Detroit.

EMILY AREA

Sucker minnows and slip bobbers are producing pike at Greer Lake in 15 feet. There's an evening walleye bite with leeches on Lake Washburn in 18 to 22 feet. Perry Lake is kicking out sunfish and crappies in 18 feet and shore anglers fishing on Anna Lake are catching trout.

HACKENSACK AREA

A spinner rig and crawler is producing walleyes on the 14- to 18-foot breaks of Birch Lake. You'll also pop a few walleyes at night on Ten Mile Lake with crankbaits over deep water. Hit Five Point Lake with sucker minnows for northern pike, but muskie reports remain poor. Although small, sunfish remain active on most lakes in 10 to 14 feet.
