I'm saddened to read the negative comments about the Pillager Community Center and the Pillager fair board. These people are trying to help the community and do a thankless job. I have seen first hand the number of hours these individuals put in, all unpaid, and apparently all unappreciated! Many take vacation time from their jobs and volunteer the entire week of the fair just to ensure that the rest of us have a little entertainment. I'm sure it's not fun for them, but they do it year after year.
Maybe the rest of us should put some time in and see what it's like.
Thanks fair board, keep up the good work.
Their minds are sealed
Voltaire's statement that "Those who believe in absurdities, commit atrocities" does seem spot on - it certainly predicted the carnage associated with the great atheist societies of the 20th century.
However, the statement that "religious doctrines and dogmas make no attempt to satisfy intellectual standards of truth telling" is unsupported by the facts. Those who are informed and honest about the historical reliability of the Gospels agree that there is far more evidence that the Gospels were written as eyewitness accounts of the life of Jesus Christ than there is supporting the claim that Homer wrote the Iliad.
Am I saying the Gospels are what they claim to be because they say they are? No. I am using the same method to authenticate their origins that is used to authenticate the origins of any ancient literary work. What type of work is being analyzed (e.g., history or myth)? When was the original document most likely written? How much time elapsed between the time the original was written and the earliest existing manuscript? How many ancient manuscripts exist and how closely do they parallel one another?
On every single authentication criterion, the evidence that the Gospels were written as eyewitness accounts of the life of Jesus Christ overwhelms the evidence used to substantiate the claim that Homer wrote the Iliad. Furthermore, if the Gospel accounts weren't originally written as straightforward accounts of the life of Jesus Christ, they are the most lackluster myths ever written by human hands.
Atheists deny the nature of the Gospels as eyewitness accounts not because of a lack of evidence, but because they include their conclusion in their premise, arguing thusly, "God does not exist, therefore, any evidence to the contrary must be false." No wonder their minds are hermetically sealed to evidence!
