EAST GULL LAKE -- Albert R. Krantz Jr., age 85, resident of East Gull Lake, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at St. Joseph's Medical Center.
He was born in Clinton, Mass., on Oct. 27, 1918, the son of Albert and Elsie Krantz. After high school graduation, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving on Guadalcanal and in New Caledonia and Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge.
Following his discharge, he moved to Minneapolis and married Patricia Olson on Nov. 13, 1945. He later served on the Brainerd Police Department for 22 years, retiring as the captain. Albert was also a special duty deputy sheriff at Madden's Resort. His memberships include Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd, Elks and Masonic lodges, Shriners and American Legion. He enjoyed life for many years in Brainerd and on Gull Lake and even built two custom pontoon boats for enjoyment for his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Patt; sons Steve (Sang) Krantz of St. Cloud, Minn., Bryan (Nancy) Krantz of Orlando, Fla.; daughter Karen Enberg of Brainerd, Minn.; brothers Robert (Eva) Krantz and Ralph (Del) Krantz, all of Massachusetts.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Wilma.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd with the Rev. David Holte officiating. Burial with military honors provided by American Legion Post 255 Honor Guard will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and the hour before services Tuesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Shriner's Children's Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.
