There's nothing quite as wholesome as a county fair. The Crow Wing County Fair under way this week in Brainerd is a prime example. Farmers, city folks and even the tourists will have plenty to see at the fair.

30 years ago (1974)

Long overdue rain, totaling nearly 3 inches, fell during Thursday night and early this morning in the Brainerd area to the delight of local farmers and the forestry department.

40 years ago (1964)

A coffee club of downtown Brainerd men which meets twice a day in the Hub Cafe once again has a trophy figure of a man and a bull to stimulate the members conversation. The trophy was presented to the club nearly 20 years ago by Earle Akre who operated a downtown cafe where the club met during the 40's.

60 years ago (1944)

In a softball game reminiscent of pre-war days, two teams, the Lions and Rotarians, battled it out for seven innings with the Lions coming out the winner 6-5 in the last of the seventh inning.

80 years ago (1924)

Sometime when you feel like you could eat $4 worth, treat yourself to an honest to goodness meal at Grandview Lodge for only $1.

100 years ago (1904)

There will be a big dance at Jones Sylvan Lake Summer Hotel, Aug. 5. Tickets including supper will be $1 per couple. Carriages will be waiting at Sylvan Station meeting all trains from Brainerd and conveying guests to the hotel.
