STOCK CAR RACING

A race with a prize of $1,000 is a pretty good reason to show up for racing on a weekday night.

That was the case for the Midwest Modified Feature event Tuesday night as 42 drivers competed for the top prize.

Included were some of the top drivers in Wissota national season points. Shane Sabraski is currently running second in the national points race and is followed close behind by Brandon Davis and Dan Ebert. Ronnie Rihn sits in seventh place and made his first appearance of the year.

The feature event was a contest between Davis and Ebert as both drivers pulled away from the rest of the pack and had their own battle for first.

Davis was able to gain a several car-length advantage over Ebert before running into lap traffic with six laps left. It got even closer when a caution with four laps left gave drivers a chance on the restart to move past Davis.

With two laps left, another caution flag came out as Rihn's engine blew up, causing some fire under the hood. Rinh was able to get out and away from the car. That resulted in a green-white-checker finish.

Ebert and Davis raced door to door down the front straight-away with Davis taking the checkered flag by a nose. Behind them was Curt Myers in third place.

Nineteen Super Stock drivers made the call for the feature event with $1,000 again on the line for the first-place finisher.

Tim Johnson earned the front row start alongside Dave Mass, the Wissota points leader for Super Stock this season.

Mass started strong and survived several caution flags and stayed out front of the pack to run away with the victory. Dan Gullickson finished second, and Don Shaw made a huge move, coming from row eight, to finish third.
