John Muhar, 85, Brainerd, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2007, at the Heritage House of Pequot Lakes.
He was born March 13, 1922, in Eveleth, Minn., to Steven and Catherine (Pluth) Muhar. He married Lois Watson in Brainerd on Feb. 9, 1943. He was a U.S. veteran who served in the Army during World War II. He was with the 329th combat engineers and while with them won the Silver Star for gallantry in action. He also holds the Purple Heart medal and the European Theatre of Action ribbon. He was employed by Inland Steel until the mine closed in 1967. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 443 in Ironton.
He is survived by his children, Michael Muhar of Bloomington, Minn., Nancy Jo Chisholm of Brainerd and Marlene (Mark) Bartlett of Brainerd; grandson Bret Chisholm of West Fargo, N.D.; brother-in-law Ray Soger of Brainerd; and niece Linda Fitch of Elk River.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois; grandson Blair Chisholm; brother, Frank; and sisters, Alyce Soger and Jo Clemens.
Services will be Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd with Deacon Roger Marks officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Brainerd, with military honors being provided by the American Legion Post No. 255. Friends may call on Tuesday from noon until the time of service at the funeral home.
